Many things occurred on Sunday night that fascinated me. First, Reese Witherspoons dress. Oh my! Love that she represents the South with such classic style. The next thing was that ridiculous woman who, during her acceptance speech, went on an emotional rant about women and equal pay. Dear Lord, woman, your gift bag for the Oscars was $125,000.00 for goodness sakes! Talk equal pay with the woman who is a single parent working two jobs trying to raise God fearing children in this economy. Soapbox over.
I really enjoyed listening to all of the different foreign languages. Weren't there a ton this year? Lots of Brit's. I could listen to them talk all day. The gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o. Remember her? She had that stunning pearl beaded gown. She was raised in Kenya. And Alejandro Iñárritu who won best director. He is from Mexico. Delightful to listen too.
I was quite intrigued with the number of movie stars who were enthralled with one another. Crying when one of their contemporaries would speak. Standing ovations for causes. So invested in each other! Putting their hands together as if praying. Finishing it off with the waist bow. Literally bowing to everyone around them.
I was very much looking forward to the music. Not just because the movie scores are such an integral part of a motion picture. But I was intrigued by the hype surrounding the performers. I must admit I was pleasantly shocked by Lady GaGa. Normally, I will turn the station or leave the room when she comes on. But she was phenomenal. Brilliant. Brought the whole arena to their feet. It was as if all the actors were mesmerized by her performance.
But there was one particular thing that struck me. It was the size of the gold Oscars. And the number of them. They were posted as back drops. They were silhouetted on the stage floor. They were illuminated on the side walls of the arena. Why so many? Why so large? They were everywhere!
I was doing my Revelation bible study homework while watching the show. One of the exercises David Jeremiah gave us was to look at Daniel 3 as it pertains to the book of Revelation. The moment I read the passages it hit me. That's it!! It wasn't an Oprah "Ah ha moment". No this was huge! This was a Holy Ghost Epiphany.
So here we go. You ready? Okay, first let's read the scripture Daniel 3:1-7:
Y'all still with me? Hang on. This is good.
First let's start with the cubit from verse 1. A cubit was a measurement used in Daniel's day. I had to use a conversion chart. But I was able to discover that 60 cubits is 2,743 centimeters or 89 feet. That's huge. King Nebuchadnezzar's wanted to make absolutely sure that everyone worshiped those gold idols!
How did the people, of all nationalities, know to worship those golden statues? The music! When they heard the music they bowed down in worship. Interesting. If I remember correctly satan, prior to his fall from heaven, was the angel of music.
So let's recap the Oscars. Hosted on Sunday. Watched by millions. Gorgeous enormous gold Oscar statues everywhere. Actors of many dialects. Actors literally worshiping the Oscar with kisses and tears of joy. Mesmirizing music scores that brought people to their feet performed by an artist who is a proclaimed follower of darkness.
With eyes wide shut 43 million Americans gathered in their living rooms, on a Sunday, to watch the Oscars. To watch their idols. Worship a gold statue. To listen to breath taking music. To listen to world causes spoken in many different dialects. Tears were shed. Statues were applauded. Statues were kissed. Praises brought people to their feet. All in the name of coveting a gold statue.
Ring a bell? Anyone?
I believe the Lord gave us a small foreshadowing of the deception that is to come in this world. It was brilliantly orchestrated. And we didn't even realize what was happening. We didn't realize , myself included, that we had just participated in idol worship of biblical proportions.
Am I bonkers? Maybe. But it does cause pause. Does it not? We the church can no longer sit by complacently. We can no longer, as Christians, accept that what is right is now wrong. Complacently accept what is wrong as now right.

So here we go. You ready? Okay, first let's read the scripture Daniel 3:1-7:
(1)King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
(2)Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
(3)Then the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
(4)And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages,
(5)that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
(6)And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace."
(7)Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

The good news? This is a redemption story. Look up! For our redemption draweth nigh!
